Halesowen in Bloom is a multi-award-winning community group that organizes and maintains floral displays and environmental enhancements in and around Halesowen town centre. Made up of volunteers, the group works with local businesses and schools to beautify the town.

Recent accolades and achievements

​

  • The King's Award for Voluntary Service (2024): Halesowen in Bloom received the highest award a local volunteer group can receive in the UK, equivalent to an MBE. This recognized the group's ongoing work to brighten up the town.

  • Best Bloomin' Pub: Each Year Halesowen In Bloom hold a pub Garden Competition The Whitley pub was named the overall winner in the annual "Best Bloomin' Pub" competition, judged on its outstanding floral displays.

  • Britain in Bloom awards: In October 2025, the group celebrated winning another Gold award at the Britain in Bloom competition. This is the 10th RHS gold Medal in a row . 2019: The group won gold and finished 3rd in the world in the Communities in Bloom international competition. 2018: The group won the national Britain in Bloom urban community category. 

 

Community involvement and projects

  • Floral displays: Volunteers plant hanging baskets and planters throughout the town, with money raised from public and business donations.

  • Environmental projects: The group's efforts also focus on environmental enhancement. For example, in 2025, Halesowen College students built a large bug hotel to boost biodiversity in the town centre.

  • Events: The group regularly participates in local events to promote community spirit. In July 2025, they had a stall at the Halesowen Carnival & Music Festival.

  • Restoration efforts: In July 2023, the community rallied together to repair floral displays that had been vandalized just before judging for the RHS regional competition. Local businesses and the council helped with the cleanup and replanting.
